Rejected products in Google Merchant Center: how to diagnose and fix them
A rejected product is a symptom, not a diagnosis. The cause may be an attribute in the feed, a product page that disagrees with it, a policy setting or an account-level issue. Re-uploading the same file or requesting review before a fix usually wastes time.
Read the exact issue first
Open the products section and inspect “Needs attention”. Record the affected product IDs, country and destination, the wording of the issue and whether it applies to one item or a group. Google’s product-issues guidance explains the status and review workflow. Check the current account interface because issue names and available actions can change.
Compare the three versions of each product
Open the feed record, the live product page and the Product structured data if present. Confirm that the price, currency, availability, variant, image and destination URL refer to the same offer. A sale price that ended on the website but remains in the feed is a common pattern. So is a variant URL that opens a different size at a different price.
For missing or invalid attributes, return to Google’s product data specification. Avoid guessing GTINs or changing titles solely to silence a warning. The correct fix belongs in the catalog source or integration rule, not in a one-off exported file that will be overwritten.
Fix the source, then verify
Update the store, feed or account setting that owns the incorrect value. Allow the data source to refresh and confirm the new value appears in Merchant Center. Test the destination URL in an ordinary browser session. If the interface offers a review request for that issue, submit it only after these checks. Processing and review times vary; a request is not an approval guarantee.
Triage by impact
- Resolve account-wide and policy issues before fine-tuning individual items.
- Fix mismatched price, availability and broken URLs for high-demand products.
- Correct identifiers, titles and image problems at the source.
- Recheck a sample after every feed refresh.
- Track recurring issues so the same errors do not reappear next week.
