Fractional CMO & Head of Marketing Services
Fractional CMO, Fractional Head of Marketing or Interim Marketing Consultant for SaaS and B2B companies that need senior marketing leadership but aren't ready for a full-time CMO — a clear 90-day plan, a measured budget and one accountable owner.
Marketing without an owner is just a list of expenses
Most companies at this stage don’t have a marketing problem. They have an ownership problem: search is run by one freelancer, paid ads by an agency, email by whoever has time on Fridays — and nobody is accountable for whether the sum of it produces pipeline. A fractional CMO exists to own the whole: the plan, the budget and the measurement, with a stated method for deciding what to do next and what to stop doing.
You will see the role called a fractional CMO, a Fractional Head of Marketing, an interim CMO, an interim marketing consultant, a part-time CMO or an outsourced marketing director. The title varies by company; the job is the same — own the marketing plan, the budget and the results, without the cost and the search of a full-time executive hire.
Three names, one job — and three ways to engage
- Fractional Head of Marketing — hands-on leadership, usually one to two days a week. Runs the plan, the channels and the vendors. The most common fit for founder-led companies that have no marketing leader at all.
- Fractional CMO — strategy, budget ownership and leadership of in-house marketers and agencies, three to five days a week, with reporting that holds up in front of a board or an investor.
- Interim Marketing Consultant — fixed-term cover, usually 3–6 months, close to full-time. For the gap after a departure or during a leave, a restructure, or the months it takes to hire a permanent head of marketing properly.
All three start the same way: with the Marketing & Growth Audit. What the audit finds decides which mode you actually need — which is why we don’t sell you the biggest one first.
Who this is for
Four kinds of teams tend to get the most out of this:
- B2B SaaS, roughly 10–100 people, founder-led marketing — the most common fit. A founder has been running marketing by default, spend has grown past what one person can judge by instinct, and the next step is a leader, not another channel.
- Companies that already have an agency or freelancers but nobody to direct them — channels are being executed, but there is no single plan, no shared KPIs and no one who can say which line of the budget is working.
- E-commerce and DTC brands scaling paid acquisition — ad spend is growing faster than clarity about margin, attribution and repeat purchase, and the numbers in the ad accounts no longer match the ones in the finance sheet.
- Companies between marketing leaders — a departure, a leave or an open vacancy, with a plan that must keep running while the right permanent hire is found.
A fractional CMO is frequently the right step before a full-time hire, not instead of it: you get the plan, the measurement and a clear job description for the permanent role — and, when the time comes, someone who can hire and onboard that person properly.
What the first 90 days look like
Days 1–10 — audit. Channels, funnel, tracking, spend, team and vendors, assessed against a stated method. You get a written report with 10–20 recommendations ranked by effort and impact.
Days 11–30 — plan. A 90-day marketing plan with KPIs and a budget allocation you can hold us to, together with the tracking fixes and quick wins the audit surfaced.
Days 31–90 — run. Weekly priorities, vendor oversight, the first monthly performance report and a mid-course correction. By day 90 you have either a marketing function that runs on its own rhythm or a clear brief for the person who should lead it full-time.
Leadership first, execution when you want it
A fractional CMO directs; it does not have to execute. If you want hands-on delivery, our teams cover SEO and GEO, AI visibility, Google Ads, content marketing and conversion rate optimization, with dashboards and data analysis underneath so every number in the plan can be checked at the source. If your product also needs senior ownership, a Fractional Product Manager works alongside the marketing lead.
Where the plan recommends a channel we also sell, it says so plainly — you can run it with us, in-house or with another vendor. The plan, the dashboards and the accounts stay yours either way.
