Search moved. Your visibility strategy has not.

For twenty years the question was “where do we rank?” Increasingly the question is “what does the AI say when someone asks about our category?” — and for most companies the honest answer is nobody has checked.

Generative Engine Optimization is the discipline that answers it. GEO is the work of making your brand retrievable, quotable and correctly described by generative AI systems: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Claude and the assistants being embedded into every browser and productivity suite.

This is a standalone service. If you want a full search programme — technical SEO, rankings, content, links, with GEO built in — that is our SEO & GEO retainer. This page is for teams whose SEO is already covered and who need the AI-citation layer specifically.

What GEO actually involves

1. Baseline: what do the models say about you now?

We build a prompt set from the questions your buyers really ask — category questions (“best X for Y”), comparison questions (“A vs B”), problem questions, and brand questions. Then we run that set against ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews and record, for each prompt:

  • whether your brand appears at all
  • whether you are cited as a source or merely mentioned
  • how you are described — and whether that description is accurate
  • which competitors appear instead of you

That is your Share of AI Voice baseline. Everything after it is measured against that number.

2. Technical retrievability

Before content work matters, the machines have to be able to read you:

  • AI crawler accessrobots.txt rules for GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, CCBot, Google-Extended and others. Many sites block these by accident, then wonder why they are invisible.
  • llms.txt — an emerging convention that gives AI agents a clean map of your site’s most important content.
  • Structured data — JSON-LD for Organization, Product, FAQPage, Article, BreadcrumbList. Structured data is the most machine-legible statement you can make about what a page is.
  • Rendering — content that only exists after JavaScript execution is frequently invisible to AI fetchers, even when Google renders it fine.

3. Entity and knowledge-graph authority

Models do not reason about keywords; they reason about entities. Your company, your products, your founders and your locations need to exist as consistent, well-described entities across the sources models are trained on and retrieve from: Wikidata, Wikipedia where notability allows, Crunchbase, LinkedIn, Google Business Profile, industry directories, and your own Organization schema.

Inconsistency here is the single most common cause of an AI describing a company wrongly — a stale name, a wrong founding year, an old product positioning that a model repeats years after you changed it.

4. Citation-ready content

Content that gets cited looks different from content that ranks. It has:

  • Extractable answers — a direct 40–60 word answer immediately under the heading, then the depth below it
  • Definitions and comparisons — explicit “X is…” statements and structured comparison tables that a model can lift cleanly
  • Concrete specifics — numbers, dates, named methods, first-party data. Generic prose is not quotable
  • Attribution-friendly framing — content structured so that quoting it naturally means naming you
  • Recency — models demonstrably favour recently updated material, so priority pages go on a refresh cycle instead of being published and forgotten

5. Third-party presence

A large share of what a model “knows” about your category comes from sources that are not your website. Reviews, comparison sites, industry publications, forums, podcasts. On the Scale tier we run digital PR specifically aimed at these surfaces, because the fastest way to change what an AI says about you is often to change what the internet says about you.

What you get each month

  • Share of AI Voice report — your citation rate per engine, trended, with competitor benchmarking
  • Prompt-level detail — which questions you win, which you lose, and to whom
  • Description accuracy check — what the models claim about you, and any factual corrections needed
  • Work log — what we changed, on which pages, and why
  • Next-period priorities — a short, ranked list, not a dashboard link

What we will not claim

GEO is a young discipline with a lot of confident nonsense around it. To be explicit about the limits:

  • No engine publishes citation impression data. Anyone quoting you “AI traffic” numbers is estimating from referral logs and modelling the rest.
  • Citation is not deterministic. The same prompt can return different sources on different days. This is why we track a fixed prompt set over time rather than screenshotting a single good result.
  • Nobody can guarantee inclusion. Retrieval is the model’s decision. We can make you the most retrievable, best-described, most quotable option in your category — we cannot make the decision for it.
  • Systems change without notice. Google changes AI Overviews behaviour, OpenAI changes retrieval, Perplexity changes its source weighting. Part of the retainer is keeping up with that.

Who this is for

B2B SaaS and technology companies whose buyers now start their research by asking an assistant to shortlist vendors.

Professional services firms that need to appear in AI-generated recommendations for high-intent queries.

E-commerce and D2C brands appearing — or not — in AI shopping comparisons and “best X” answers.

Companies with an existing SEO team who need the GEO layer as a specialised add-on rather than a second full retainer.

Brands being described incorrectly by AI — an outdated positioning, a wrong fact, a competitor mistakenly credited with your product. This is fixable, and it is one of the most common reasons companies come to us.

Start with the baseline

The first thing worth knowing is where you stand. Our free AI visibility audit runs a sample prompt set against the major engines for your category and shows you what they currently say about you and your competitors — and whether it is even accurate.

You get the findings whether or not you engage us.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Generative Engine Optimization?
GEO is the practice of making your brand and content retrievable and citable by generative AI systems — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google Gemini and Google AI Overviews. Where SEO optimises for a position in a list of links, GEO optimises for being the source an AI quotes when it answers a question. The work is different: entity consistency across the web, content formatted for extraction, structured data, and third-party mentions that shape how models describe you.
How is GEO different from the SEO service you already offer?
Our SEO & GEO retainer is a full search programme — technical SEO, keyword strategy, content, link building, with GEO included as one layer. This standalone GEO service is for companies that already have SEO handled (in-house or with another agency) and only want the AI-citation layer. If you need both, the combined retainer is cheaper than buying them separately.
Can you actually measure whether AI assistants cite us?
Yes, with a stated method and stated limits. We define a prompt set — the real questions your buyers ask — and run it against each engine on a fixed schedule, recording whether you appear, in what position, with what framing, and who appears instead. That gives a repeatable Share of AI Voice trend. What we cannot do is give you a per-query volume number: the AI vendors do not publish impression data, and anyone quoting you exact AI traffic figures is estimating.
How long before we see citations?
Technical and formatting fixes can show up within weeks, because they change how a page is parsed the next time it is crawled. Entity and authority work — the part that determines whether a model treats you as a credible source at all — moves on a 3–6 month horizon, and depends on how established your brand already is. New brands with thin third-party coverage take longer, and we will say so during the audit rather than after you sign.
Does GEO work if our site has no traffic?
Partly. AI systems retrieve from the web they can crawl, so a technically sound, well-structured site with clear content can get cited without ranking first in Google. But models weigh authority signals heavily, so a site with no external mentions and no track record is a hard starting point. In that case we usually recommend starting with the combined SEO + GEO programme rather than GEO alone.
What do you need from us to start?
Read access to Google Search Console and analytics, the ability to deploy changes to your site (or a developer contact who can), a list of competitors you want benchmarked, and a first pass at the questions your customers actually ask. We build the prompt set from that list plus our own query research and confirm it with you before the baseline run.
Do you guarantee we will be cited?
No, and we would not trust anyone who does. Citation is a model's retrieval decision, not a setting we can toggle, and the systems change without notice. What we commit to is the work and the measurement: a documented baseline, a fixed prompt set, monthly re-runs, and an honest report of what moved and what did not.
Is there a minimum term?
3 months minimum, then month-to-month with 30 days' notice. Three months is the shortest window in which the entity and content work has any chance of showing in the tracking — below that you would be paying for a setup you never get to measure.
